Suppose that you have replaced your PC and now you need to resume syncing the previously synced folders. This process is called "relinking". First of all, you have to install Dropbox and Boxifier on the new computer and activate your Boxifier license.
The folders that you sync to/from Dropbox can be located as follows:
- subfolders of top-level folders in Dropbox (e.g. subfolders of the "Boxifier" folder)
- top-level folders in Dropbox
Please follow the steps corresponding to your case.
Suppose we have three synced folders: “Hippo”, “Lion” and “Panda”.
If your synced folders are subfolders of top-level folders in Dropbox:
1. On your new computer, open Selective Sync settings in Dropbox, make sure the synced folders' parent top-level folder is checked and uncheck the previously synced folders.
In this example, our three folders (“Hippo”, “Lion” and “Panda”) are subfolders of the Boxifier folder. Boxifier folder is checked (this is our top-level folder) in the Selective Sync settings in Dropbox and the subfolders are unchecked (these are our synced folders).
2. Go to the first folder that you want to resume syncing (located outside of the Dropbox folder), right-click and choose "Boxifier - Sync with Dropbox" or just drag the folder to the Boxifier application window.
In our example here we start with "Hippo" as the first folder to resume syncing.
3. A window will open and if the name matches an existing folder in your Dropbox then you will see a green Relink button in that window. In order to resume syncing a folder to the same location in Dropbox, it must match the name and location of the previously synced folder.
4. Click the green Relink button.
5. Repeat steps 1-4 for all folders that you want to resume syncing.
6. After you have performed steps 1-5, go to Selective Sync settings in Dropbox and check the previously synced folders so they start syncing outside of the Dropbox folder.
If your synced folders are top-level folders:
1. On your new computer, open Selective Sync settings in Dropbox and uncheck all previously synced folders. This step is required in order not to sync those folders in the local Dropbox folder. Your most likely reason for using Boxifier is syncing those folders outside of the Dropbox folder.
2. Go to the folder located outside of the Dropbox folder that you want to resume syncing, right-click and choose "Boxifier - Sync with Dropbox" or just drag the folder to the Boxifier application window.
3. By default, it will suggest syncing as a subfolder of the “Boxifier” top-level folder, but you want to sync as a top-level folder in Dropbox so you need to click on the upper part of the folder structure in order to change the sync location. Click on the Dropbox folder to sync as a top-level folder in Dropbox (notice how Selected location changes), then click OK.
4. If the name matches an existing top-level folder in your Dropbox then you will see a green Relink button in that window. In order to resume syncing a folder to the same location in Dropbox, it must match the name and location of the previously synced folder.
5. Click the green Relink button.
6. Repeat steps 1-5 for all folders that you want to resume syncing.
7. After you have performed steps 1-6 for all previously synced folders, go to the Selective Sync settings in Dropbox and check them so they start syncing outside of the Dropbox folder.
